Sunday, October 15 at 3:00 p.m. (Pre-performance panel and Q & A at 2:00)

Lincoln Park Middle School Auditorium

Music by Johann Sebastian Bach
World Premiere at Leipzig, April 7, 1724

Special guests, Twin Ports Choral Project, are joined by a stellar cast of soloists, the LOON orchestra, and a chorale chorus comprised of singers from the Twin Ports and beyond, in this staged production of Bach’s St. John Passion.

Originally written as a liturgical piece, Lyric Opera of the North presents St. John Passion here as an opera. With stage direction by Robert Neu, these performances will showcase the power and timelessness of this piece, which tells the story of the last days of the life of Jesus Christ. In this, our operatic acknowledgement of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, we find a piece of enormous beauty, startling violence, and an uncannily timed conversation about “us” and “them”.

Running time: 2 hours 30 minutes. Sung in German with English supertitles.
