Georgia Jacobson
A native of Duluth, Minnesota, French-born mezzo-soprano Georgia Jacobson’s recent engagements included debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Kentucky Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, as well as returns to Lyric Opera of the North, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra. Her recent engagements include Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Carmen (Sioux City Symphony Orchestra), Siddhartha, She (Aspen Music Festival), and A Little Night Music (Lyric Opera of the North). Equally at home with art song, Jacobson returned home to Minnesota to premiere two song cycles, both commissioned for her by The Schubert Club. She has recently performed in recital at Source Song Festival, Sacred Heart Music Center, and the Aspen Music Festival. In previous seasons, she has been an Apprentice Artist at Des Moines Metro Opera, Sandford Studio Artist at Kentucky Opera, and Chrisman Studio Artist at Opera Santa Barbara. Her recent roles include Mercedes (Carmen), Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Maggie (The Gift of the Magi), Hannah After (As One), Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana), Lucilla (cover, La scala di seta), Margaret Johnson/Signora Naccarelli (The Light in the Piazza) and Waltraute (Die Walküre). In previous seasons, she has covered the role of Virginia Woolf in the world premiere/concert version of The Hours by composer Kevin Puts and librettist Gregory Pierce at the The Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as the roles of Hermia in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Mary Johnson in Fellow Travelers as an Apprentice Artist at Des Moines Metro Opera. In November of 2022, Jacobson was a Metropolitan National Council Encouragement Award winner in the Arizona district. Additionally, Ms. Jacobson won 1st Place in the National Opera Association’s 2020 Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition. Jacobson has a special affinity for French repertoire, and she was proud to make her professional debut with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in their production of Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges as Maman/Tasse/La libellule under the baton of Maestro Louis Langrée. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and Master’s of Music (Voice) from University of Cincinnati – College Conservatory of Music, where she has recently received an Artist Diploma (Opera Performance).
