Chorus Auditions for January production of The Radio Hour

Lyric Opera of the North will hold CHORUS auditions for The Radio Hour, a choral opera by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer.

Auditions will be held Tuesday, September 10th beginning at 6:00 PM. Auditions will be held at First Lutheran Church, 1100 E Superior Street, Duluth.

Please prepare one song or aria in any language. A pianist will be at the auditions. Auditioners will also be asked to prepare an excerpt from the upcoming production of Jake Heggie & Gene Scheer’s The Radio Hour. Excerpt will be provided immediately upon booking audition.

About The Radio Hour:

The Radio Hour was written in 2014 and has only been produced a handful of times (once by Minneapolis’ Vocalessence.) In 40 minutes and three parts, this choral opera tells the story of Nora, a middle-aged woman having a very bad day. She seeks solace by locking herself inside her apartment and turning on the radio. Nora is played by a silent actress. The chorus represents the inner monologue of her life and the imaginative possibilities that await her.

This is a fully staged opera and needs to be fully memorized. To achieve that, rehearsals will be split up into two sections: October and January. The schedule below is subject to change. Each chorister will be paid $500.

Rehearsal locations TBD until tech week. Tech and Performances at The St. Louis County Depot Main Stage. This production will be conducted by Michael Fuchs.
