Audition for Lyric Opera of the North’s touring company, Little Opera of the North, and tour northern Minnesota as a teaching artist!  

Little LOON is casting singers and pianists for its upcoming tour of Opera for the Young’s adaptation of The Magic Flute.  

The touring company will be cast from video submissions only. Singers, please send resume and  video with one aria in English, plus another favorite aria in any language, to  rebecca@loonopera.org. Pianists, please contact us directly at rebecca@loonopera.org for  more information. The submission deadline is Friday, July 31.  

Little Opera of the North is the touring program from Lyric Opera of the North, based in  Duluth, MN. During the coming school year, LOON anticipates visiting nearly 40 schools  throughout the Arrowhead Region and across northern Minnesota. Little LOON uses the  brilliantly adapted scores and teaching materials from Opera for the Young, based in Madison, Wisconsin. 

The 45-minute adaptation will double cast for Queen of the Night/First Lady (coloratura  soprano) with optional transposed keys, Pamina/Second Lady (lyric soprano), Prince Tamino (tenor), and Papageno/Third Lady (baritone). Also seeking 2 collaborative pianists available for the tour. 

Cast members (four singers and one pianist) drive the tour van, load and unload set pieces, and train student performers for 7 – 10 shows per week. Compensation is $80 per show plus  $40 per diem during out-of-Duluth days. Travel and lodging are provided while on tour. Each artist receives lodging and $560 for the mandatory rehearsal period.  

Rehearsal Week – All Artists Called: Sunday January 31 (PM) through Friday February 5, 2027.  

We anticipate 4 full weeks of touring: three weeks in February, one week in March, 2027, with a possible 5th week (full or partial) added. The  tour is double cast, therefore each artist will tour 2 or 3 of these weeks.
