Gunnar Molstad
Gunnar Molstad, Bass Baritone, is the director of 5-8 vocal music at North Star Academy in Duluth, MN, where he leads four choirs and directs two musicals. Gunnar is also the director of Camerata, the changing voices ensemble of the Twin Ports’ highly professional Lake Superior Youth Chorus. Gunnar is passionate about developing strong community with their ensembles, all while pushing a high level of musical excellence. Gunnar graduated from the University of Minnesota-Morris in 2019 with a degree in Vocal Music Education and Vocal Performance. While pursuing this undergraduate degree, Gunnar was proud to have been a member of every choral ensemble on campus. During his first three years of teaching in rural, Southern Minnesota, 2019-2021, Gunnar put a pause on performing to focus more intently on growing his skill as an educator, which then was extended due to the lockdowns that began his first year of teaching.
He moved to Duluth in August of 2022 and entered the professional and semi-professional music scene through that year’s Season Splash at Wade Stadium. Since that time, Gunnar has rapidly filled up their calendar, singing with the Twin Ports Choral Project, Borealis Chamber Singers, as a chorus member of LOON’s 2023 production of Cavalleria Rusticana, and singing as a ringer and gig musician with several other projects in town including Classical MPR’s “Bring the Sing” and the Sanctus Series, an early music quartet performing the entirety of Guillame Machaut’s ca. 1365 work Messe de Notre Dame.
